In my role as editor of John Joseph Adams Books for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, I just acquired two new books by Hugh Howey. Here’s the deal memo that just ran on Publishers Marketplace:

NYT bestseller Hugh Howey’s MACHINE LEARNING: NEW AND COLLECTED STORIES, a short story collection including three stories set in the world of WOOL and two never-before-published tales, plus fifteen additional stories collected together for the first time, for publication in Fall 2017, and print rights to indie-published novel SAND, for publication in Spring 2017, to John Joseph Adams at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, by Kristin Nelson at Nelson Literary Agency (NA).

In my new role as editor of John Joseph Adams Books for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, I just acquired two books in a new series by Carrie Vaughn:

New York Times bestseller Carrie Vaughn’s BANNERLESS, a novel in which an investigator must discover the truth behind a mysterious death in a world where small communities struggle to maintain a ravaged civilization decades after environmental and economic collapse, to John Joseph Adams Books (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), in a two-book deal, for publication in Spring 2017, by Seth Fishman at The Gernert Company. Fans of Carrie’s (and/or my work in the short form) may recognize from that description that the book is set in the same milieu as Carrie’s Hugo-nominated story, “Amaryllis,” which I originally published way back in issue #1 of Lightspeed, and also her story “Bannerless,” which appeared in my anthology, The End Has Come.
