Late Afternoon with Conan O’Brien
by
I attended a taping of Late Night with Conan O’Brien today, which is taped in the late afternoon. I received VIP tickets courtesy of my friend Andrea Kail, who works on the show. (Thanks, Andrea!)
On the show were Bernie Mac, and the guy who does that To Catch a Predator show, along with musical guest Daughtry, which was the reason for my attendance. You see, my mother is insane over Chris Daughtry, and she wanted badly to go see the show, so I went with her. Ain’t I a good son?
Seeing the show was pretty fun. After the warm-up comic finished up, Conan came out himself and did a little bit of a warm-up, shaking some hands and dancing up the aisle–at which point he got a guy on the end of the aisle to get up and dance with him, at least until Conan backed away and said “Hey, what the hell was that? Man, that got weird really fast.” But they made up, and hugged, and Conan even made him hug Max Weinberg (the band leader), and the guy got to keep Max’s drum sticks.
Nothing like that happened to me, but I did get a free t-shirt. Pictured here is the remnants of the admission band they give you when you check in. I tried to take a photo of the NBC Rainbow Room sign, but I was trying to use my phone’s camera and accidentally took a 2 second video of it instead. Did not turn out well.
All in all, a fun experience. I’ll have to go back when they get a nice death metal band as the musical guest.
